In Egis’ life, innovation is essential: we devote approximately EUR 50 million to research and development, continuous renewal is one of our core values. More than 500 Egis employees work in Research and Development, therefore raising interest for STEM professions and helping young talents are fundamental parts of our mission.
We have been supporting ’Scientific and Innovation Talent Recruitment Contest for Youth’ from the nineties, the first competition was held in 1991. In 2020, the Egis prize was handed to Hunor Sebők, a student of the Piarist Grammar School in Budapest. As an undergraduate student, the young talent has already joined a research group of the Institute of Experimental Medicine. He was involved in a research on the hippocampus, an area of the brain cortex playing an important role in the control of memories, learning and emotions. The prize-winning study, „New perspectives in the treatment given by a nerve tract arriving to the brain’s memory center”, covers this subject.
